NASA‘s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has begun to experiment with internet of things in efforts to manage cybersecurity operations and connect with the public, Fedscoop reported Thursday.Samantha Ehlinger writes that Mik Cox, data scientist at JPL, said Wednesday at Amazon Web Services‘ re:Invent forum that although he believes IoT can help the lab to secure operations, the lab also has to examine the potential risk of connected commercial devices.
“We want to be careful about what we’re actually passing through the public cloud,†Cox added.
He noted that JPL decided to not connect devices to the lab’s normal network for mission applications and just create a separate network for connected devices, according to the report.
