The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday approved two bipartisan bills that aim to strengthen the U.S. cybersecurity posture.The committee passed the proposed DHS Cyber Incident Response Teams Act of 2018, which directs the Department of Homeland Security to institute a task force to act as a cyber incident response team that would protect the virtual systems of public and private sector entities and critical infrastructure, the office of Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., said Wednesday.
The committee also voted to advance the proposed Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act of 2018, which calls for the establishment of a rotational cyber workforce within the government.
“Our country faces ever-evolving cyber threats from Russia, China, criminal hackers, and cyber terrorists every single day, and these bipartisan bills will help bolster cyber defenses at federal agencies in order to better protect Americans,†Hassan said.
The senator co-sponsored the measures.
