The Federal Aviation Administration will dole out 269 grants worth nearly $1 billion to 85 U.S. airports that need terminal infrastructure upgrades.
FAA said Thursday the projects will be funded under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law as part of an aviation program to increase airport capacity, energy efficiency, industry competition and accessibility for persons with disabilities.
The agency noted that two grant awards will support the construction of air traffic control towers at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport in Illinois and the Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina.
Another grant is intended to update a multimodal ground transport facility in Gainesville Regional Airport in Florida.
“The work that goes in to build safer, more accessible and sustainable terminals will provide opportunities for people across the nation. said A. Bradley Mims, deputy administrator of FAA.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a critical investment not only in our nation’s infrastructure, but an investment in the future of our country’s workforce.”
