Julie Dunne, who has been interim commissioner of the General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service since October, has been named permanent head of FAS.
“Julie’s extensive background in federal acquisition policy and experience in the executive branch, private sector, and Congress provides a valuable foundation for her leadership role at GSA. … I am excited to work with her as she implements her vision for continuing GSA’s work to modernize and streamline government,” GSA Administrator and a 2020 Wash100 award winner Emily Murphy said in a statement published Thursday.
Dunne will oversee efforts to improve acquisition process through information technology modernization programs and GSA’s Federal Marketplace Strategy. She will help generate savings and increase efficiencies through shared services as well as advance the Multiple Award Schedules consolidation effort.
She was appointed acting commissioner of FAS in October after serving as senior adviser to the administrator of GSA. She previously served as a staff director on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's government operations subcommittee, senior counsel on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and as associate general counsel at the Department of Homeland Security.
GSA also appointed Tom Howder, a more than three-decade agency veteran, as permanent deputy FAS commissioner. He assumed the acting deputy role in November 2018 and previously served as head of the agency’s Assisted Acquisition Services portfolio.
