Rep. Billy Long (R-Missouri) and Rep. Doris Matsui (D-California) have reintroduced a bill that aims to strengthen cybersecurity at the Department of Health and Human Services.The HHS Cybersecurity Modernization Act would authorize the HHS secretary to reorganize the department’s cybersecurity workforce, according to a press release posted Wednesday on the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s website.
The bill would require HHS to create a plan on the coordination of department offices with regulatory authority over healthcare cybersecurity as well as how the department will differentiate its internal cybersecurity responsibility from its role in as a guide of the healthcare sector.
Under the proposed legislation, HHS must also develop a plan on how it will balance its roles as the regulator and the sector-specific agency for healthcare.
