Karen Evans was sworn in Tuesday as the first assistant secretary of the Energy Department‘s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response, one week after the Senate confirmed her nomination.“I look forward to working with industry to provide the most advanced and secure energy infrastructure to the American people, and overcoming the challenges ahead in response to manmade and natural disasters,” Evans said in a statement released Tuesday.
She told U.S. senators at a June hearing that she would employ innovation approaches in efforts to address a cyber skills gap within the department.
Evans most recently served as national director for the U.S. Cyber Challenge program and held an executive position focused on information technology programs at the Office of Budget and Management during the George W. Bush administration.
