Matt Turek, program manager for DARPA’s information innovation office, discussed during a panel at the Center for Strategic and International Studies the agency’s media forensics program, which uses technologies to help DARPA determine whether videos and images have been manipulated.

Jeanette Manfra, assistant director for cybersecurity at CISA, said the agency is working to further develop people’s trust in the government and “build a more resilient public.”

“We need to make sure that we have a public that is educated and understands that there are people out there that are going to try to do these things, and so you know, we think the best solution for this is as much sunlight as possible,” Manfra said.

CISA is also collaborating with news organizations to understand and identify authoritative data sources in the event that adversaries disseminate manipulated and false information.
