President Donald Trump plans to nominate Brett Giroir, president and CEO of biopharmaceutical company ViraCyte, as assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services.
The White House said Friday that Giroir previously held the roles of executive vice president and CEO at the Texas A&M Health Science Center and as director of the defense science office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
He also worked as chief medical officer at Children’s Health in Dallas, CEO of Health Science and Biosecurity Partners, managing director at Kirchner Group, strategic adviser at TMCx Accelerator and a partner at TransBio Ventures.
Giroir serves as a scientific advisory board member at the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Cancer Moonshots Program and A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute at the University of Michigan as well as chair of the Veterans Choice Act Blue Ribbon Panel to Review and Assess the Veterans Health System.
He also teaches pediatrics, tropical medicine and medical ethics and health policy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
