Ryan Dean Newman, acting assistant attorney general for the Justice Department‘s legal policy office, will be nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as general counsel at the Department of the Army, the White House announced Monday.He previously served in the U.S. Army as a captain and received a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Newman’s legal career in the public sector also includes service as chief counsel to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and a law clerk at the Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the District Court for the District of Columbia.
He also worked as a lawyer at law firm Jones Day.
