The State Department has introduced objectives and international engagement recommendations for President Donald Trump to launch efforts in protecting the cyber interests of the U.S.State Secretary Mike Pompeo said Thursday the objectives reflect the federal government’s initiatives in encouraging foreign partners to address virtual threats to modernize cybersecurity approaches in the U.S.
The State Department’s recommendations for U.S. cyber resilience include:
- Increasing international stability and reduce potential risks in the use of cyberspace.
- Identifying and countering malicious cyber actors and respond and recover from their actions.
- Upholding a virtual space where human rights are protected and freely exercised and cross-border data flows are preserved.
- Maintaining the role of non-governmental stakeholders in how cyberspace is governed.
- Introducing an international regulatory environment that supports innovation and respects the global nature of cyberspace.
The effort falls under the Executive Order on Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure, which was issued in May 11, 2017.
