AT&T has been selected by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Inspector General (HHS OIG) to transform and modernize its network and provide wireless access to FirstNet, the nationwide, wireless communications platform dedicated to America’s first responders and public safety community, AT&T announced on Tuesday.

“We’re honored to help the Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General improve network efficiencies and support improved communications among its investigators,” said Brendan Floyd, Vice President-Civilian, AT&T Global Public Sector.

AT&T will deliver to HHS OIG a fully-managed Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) service to improve visibility into routing, switching and other networking infrastructure, which will help HHS OIG operate its network more cost efficiently.

The HHS OIG solution includes wireless access to FirstNet. FirstNet brings public safety officials and law enforcement a physically separate, dedicated core network with enhanced security, priority and preemption for first responders, no speed limitations anywhere in the country, and Band 14 spectrum dedicated for their use when they need it.

These services and AT&T’s global IP-network offer HHS OIG access to highly secure and reliable connectivity as well as vital communications capabilities when and where they are needed.

About Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Inspector General

HHS OIG is the largest inspector general’s office in the Federal Government, with approximately 1,600 professionals dedicated to combating fraud, waste and abuse and to improving the efficiency of Medicare, Medicaid and more than 100 other Health & Human Services programs.

The Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) mission is to protect the integrity of Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) programs as well as the health and welfare of program beneficiaries.
