The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is rolling out a pilot program that will enable clinicians to better access patients’ medical information through the Blue Button 2.0 Medicare data platform. CMS said Tuesday that the “Data at the Point of Care” program is based on an application programming interface and allows clinicians to request for Medicare beneficiaries’ claims data including medication lists, prior procedures and previous diagnoses.
“Technology, coupled with open data sharing, is how we will improve value, control costs and keep patients healthy while ensuring a solvent Medicare program for generations to come,†said CMS Administrator Seema Verma.
The DPC program comes as part of the Trump administration’s MyHealthEData initative and builds on CMS’ Blue Button 2.0 API effort focused on connecting Medicare beneficiaries with relevant healthcare services.
CMS announced the DPC program during the White House Blue Button Developers Conference in Washington, D.C.
