Janet Vogel, deputy chief information officer at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, will serve as chief information security officer of the Department of Health and Human Services beginning April, Federal News Radio reported Friday.Vogel will succeed Chris Wlaschin, who will step down from the post on March 31 due to personal reasons.
Vogel has 40 years of civil service experience, including more than 20 years within HHS and 15 years of executive leadership at CMS.
She previously served as director for the financial management systems group in CMS’ Office of Financial Management, where she led the development, implementation and management of an internet-based accounting platform called the Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System.
Vogel also worked at the Treasury Department as director of technical operations for the HRConnect human resources management system and at the Federal Aviation Administration as director of policy for the chief information officer.
