Army Lt. Gen. Robert Ashley, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and 2019 Wash100 Award winner, said DIA has three priorities to improve intelligence-gathering efforts. One is to ensure the resiliency, reliability and security of its Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communication System, the Department of Defense website reported Monday.

Ashley said Tuesday that DIA’s second priority is making the Machine-Assisted Analytic Rapid-Repository System the agency’s database of the future by leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning and cloud computing during DoD’s Intelligence Information System Worldwide Conference in Tampa, Fla.

DIA’s third focus is to increase the use of open-source intelligence, which he said could support the agency’s mission of “providing intelligence on foreign militaries to prevent and decisively win wars.” Ashley also cited the role of people in advancing DIA’s mission and the need to strengthen collaboration and data sharing with allies and other partners.
