Navy Secretariat Seeks to Modernize Business Operations Through ReorganizationThomas Modly, undersecretary of the U.S. Navy, has issued a memorandum to reorganize secretariat functions in a push to accelerate alignment and modernization of business operations across the Department of the Navy.

He said in the memo published Friday that he will lead a new Office of the DON Chief Management Officer that will replace the deputy undersecretary for management position.

The OCMO will oversee enterprise transformation efforts related to naval audit outcomes and financial accountability; data strategy; systems modernization and rationalization; and business reform throughout the Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.

Modly added he will assume DON Chief Information Officer responsibilities and authorities and keep a small Office of the CIO for statutory compliance.

The Navy’s N2/N6 and the Marine Corps’ C4/CIO will serve as DON CIO Deputies.
