The Defense Department has restructured a new steering group that will work to accelerate the adoption of cloud platforms and services within DoD, Federal News Radio reported Monday.
Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan wrote in a Thursday memo that Jay Gibson, deputy chief management officer, will chair the cloud executive steering group that was established in September.
Shanahan originally tapped Ellen Lord, defense undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics, to lead CESG.
He noted in the memo that Lord’s AT&L office will support all the initiatives of the steering group.
Other officers named to CESG include:
- Bob Daigle, director of cost assessment and program evaluation
- Chris Lynch, director of the Defense Digital Service
- Essye Miller, acting chief information officer
- Joshua Marcuse, DoD staff
- Raj Shah, managing partner of the Defense Innovation Unit Experimental
- Will Roper, director of the Strategic Capabilities Office
DoD will continue to carry out its cloud adoption effort in two phases in which Lynch will oversee the first phase that includes a full-and-open competition to procure an enterprise-based cloud services platform designed to support top-secret, secret and unclassified data.
Under the second phase, Capt. David McAllister of SCO will lead the effort to help DoD components and related systems migrate to the acquired commercial cloud platform.
