Paul Tibbits, former program executive officer for financial management business transformation at the Department of Veterans Affairs, has been promoted to executive director for the VA’s Office of Electronic Health Record Modernization, Federal News Network reported Monday.
The appointment comes after Genevieve Morris left the post in August.
Tibbits will oversee deployment and maintenance of the department’s new electronic medical record system and associated health information technology tools. He will also assist the department in transitioning from a legacy patient data system to one with better storage and data retention capabilities.
Tibbits spent the last 11 years in the VA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer, holding deputy CIO roles, including for architecture, strategy and design and enterprise development. He brings more than 28 years of experience working for the Defense Department.
The OEHRM is tasked with processing medical records of service members departing active duty so that data can be seamlessly accessed even when military personnel graduate into veteran status.
The DoD and the VA recently announced plans to release a single electronic health record system to simplify and streamline medical listing processes.
