The Defense Department has proposed a new rule that would facilitate increased oversight by Congress on the department’s multi-year contract procurement activities, Federal News Radio reported Monday.
Scott Maucione writes that the rule would require the defense secretary to certify if a potential multi-year contract meets certain specifications and alert congressional defense committees within 30 days of an existing multi-year contract’s termination.
The proposal works to drive DoD toward cost-saving and cost-efficient contracting decisions in response to provisions in the 2015 defense authorization and defense appropriations legislation, the report said.
DoD will accept public comments on the proposed rule through Feb. 29.
