The State Department has gathered 130 foreign service officers in Washington for a week-long cybersecurity training program, FCW reported Friday.Aisha Chowdhry writes the FSOs will receive briefings from officials at the State Department plus the departments of Homeland Security and Commerce, FBI and the White House on encryption, countering extremism, Internet of Things, digital economy and global cyberspace norms.
Trained FSOs will then assist embassy personnel on cybersecurity and etiquette, Chowdhry wrote.
“It’s important for these folks to be able to know how to talk to their governments but also do what people in the field do very well…to engage and also to keep us informed,” Christopher Painter, the State Department’s cyber issues coordinator, told FCW.
