What Are the Goals of the Coast Guard Digital Transformation Strategy?
The Coast Guard said Tuesday the Digital Transformation Strategy, or DTX, outlines a long-term plan to strengthen mission performance by automating administrative tasks, reducing manual processes, accelerating access to operational data and enhancing collaboration across teams and partners.
The strategy also seeks to deploy modern, reliable systems, prepare personnel to adopt emerging technologies and strengthen mission readiness by helping leaders identify trends, prioritize resources and respond with greater precision.
How Might the Strategy Affect Coast Guard Operations?
The digital modernization effort is designed to provide greater access to data, digital tools and integrated systems to support faster decision-making. The initiative also seeks to accelerate the deployment of new capabilities, reduce unexpected maintenance, strengthen cybersecurity and streamline administrative processes that can hinder operational efficiency. One example highlighted by the Coast Guard is the use of handheld mobile devices with secure digital forms and real-time data entry, reducing paperwork and allowing personnel to focus more on mission operations and public safety.
The strategy builds on broader Force Design 2028 efforts, including recent Coast Guard modernization initiatives such as the launch of the CG-RAPTOR rapid prototyping office to accelerate the development of new capabilities and the establishment of the Futures Development and Integration Directorate, which will serve as a hub for planning Coast Guard modernization. The service also announced plans for a potential $100 million data, analytics and AI support contract.
