U.S. Chief Information Officer Tony Scott has said President Barack Obama plans to appoint a federal chief information security officer within the next three months, Federal Times reported Tuesday.
Aaron Boyd writes the federal CISO will work to oversee cybersecurity policy and collaborate with the Defense Department and the intelligence community on federal network security.
“That’s a key role that many private sector companies have long implemented and it’s good practice for the federal government,†Scott told Federal Times.
He added that the president added funds for the federal CISO to his fiscal 2017 budget request, according to the report.
A federal CISO would operate under the auspices of the Office of Management and Budget in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, Boyd reports.
